Fire / Emergency Procedures exist to help the occupants deal with a fire or emergency in a planned, structured and cohesive way that optimises the safety of the building participants.
Yes Fire Safety Management is a clear legal requirement under the Fire Service Act 1981- 2003. The Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act (Section 11) also specifically lists the requirement for emergency planning.
Fire / Emergency Procedures should be developed in conjunction with key stakeholders and persons who have familiarity with the building and its operation.
It is a good idea to review Fire / Emergency Procedures annually at the very least. They may have to be reviewed more frequently should the premises, operations or environment change.
